 The American Volunteer Group (AVG), or "Flying Tigers" as they became known as, were volunteer pilots from all branches of the US military who fought for China as "civilians." The group was formed prior to America's involvement in WWII and were brilliantly led by Claire Chennault (who was eventually promoted to the rank of General and commander of the 14th AF). The exploits & successes of the Flying Tigers, usually against superior numbers, became legendary.
This outstanding A-2 is a tribute to the this elite group of aviators. Features include a supple medium brown goatskin shell, snap-down collar with collar stand (a feature found on earlier A-2s), box-stitched epaulets, two front cargo pockets (with authentic WWII-era pocket flaps), two interior pockets, nickel throat latch, brass zipper under wind flap, one-piece back, 100% cotton lining (with fully embroidered American Volunteer Group "banner" sewn onto the lining), and a WWII-style leather hanging strap (box-stitched on the back). The front of the jacket features a multi-piece leather Hell's Angel (3rd Pursuit Squadron) patch, the left sleeve features a 14th AF bullion patch, and the back of the jacket features a leather "blood chit" with multi-piece US flag and China-Burma-India insignia. A truly authentic jacket! Made in the USA.

This outstanding Cockpit® jacket is a superb reproduction of a 1950s Korean War-era US Navy G-1, and each jacket is individually hand-distressed for an authentic "aged" look. Generally, the finish on new military-issue goatskin G-1s was quite durable and did not distress rapidly with wear (unlike the finish on many contemporary lambskin jackets). Accordingly, the distressing on this jacket is very subtle -- just a hint of wear along the waistband & cuffs and along various seams -- which adds that slight patina of age that an actual vintage G-1 would have. In addition, the goatskin leather has that supple "broken-in" feel of a truly veteran jacket!
The fur collar is a genuine '50s-era collar in the same medium brown color as the collars on the WWII M422s and early G-1s. Other authentic features include the genuine '50s-era bidirectional single-ply waistband, extra-long double-ply cuffs, a narrow wind flap with "USN" perforation, underarm gussets and bi-swing back for freedom of movement, heavy-duty zipper, two front cargo pockets featuring the correct '50s-era pocket flaps (which had a more "pointed" bottom edge, unlike the more rectangular-shaped flaps of later G-1s), an inside map pocket, and a nylon lining. In keeping with military authenticity, there are no side-entry handwarmer pockets and the fit is military (not full-cut or oversized).
There are also nine original patches (2 in front, one on each sleeve, and 5 on the back) that trace the career of a naval aviator during the 1950s and include Heavy Attack Wing 2 (whose motto translates to: "We will find a way, or we will make one"), VAH-2 Sky Warriors (a USN A-3 Heavy Attack Squadron; the "M" on the "tori" gate indicates Detachment M), Task Force 77 USS Ticonderoga (TF77 is the carrier strike force of the US 7th Fleet), HATRON TWO ("Heavy ATtack squadRON TWO" -- Det M of VAH-2 operated off the USS Ticonderoga from Sept '57-Apr '58), Task Force 77 USS Philippine Sea (CVA-47 was the flagship of TF77 during the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950), VC-6 "Fleurs" (a composite squadron formed in 1950, it was redesignated VAH-6 in '56 and transitioned to Skywarriors in '58), and a US Seventh Fleet patch (whose motto is "Ready Power For Peace").
This is one of the finest jackets we've seen and is a true collector's item. The level of authenticity, craftsmanship and attention to detail in this American-made G-1 is outstanding and you're guaranteed to turn heads whenever you wear it! Made in the USA.

We also offer the Cockpit® Vintage Goatskin G-1 without patches. This jacket is styled like the earlier M422s/G-1s from WWII, Korea and late-60s Vietnam. The jackets are individually hand-distressed for that authentic "aged" look and features a vintage medium brown collar, vintage bidirectional single-ply waistband, extra-long double-ply cuffs, a narrow wind flap with "USN" perforation, underarm gussets and bi-swing back for freedom of movement, heavy-duty zipper, two front cargo pockets featuring the correct vintage-style pocket flaps, an inside map pocket, and a nylon lining. In keeping with military authenticity, there are no side-entry handwarmer pockets and the fit is military (not full-cut or oversized).
This G-1 is a great "blank canvas" for adding your own USN or USMC patches (especially original vintage patches*), or wear it as is. Either way, this authentic American-made vintage-style jacket is one of the finest we've seen and one you'll be proud to be seen in! Made in the USA.
*Many customers who've purchased this jacket have an authentic vintage G-1 (either from their own service days or one that was handed down to them from a loved one) which no longer fits. They remove the patches from their original G-1 and sew them onto this jacket, creating a "new original" with the same vintage look as their old original.

This Cockpit® Antique Lambskin A-2 has a patriotic "The Nation Salutes You" embroidered and silkscreened nylon liner featuring two US flags. The liner's design is a nostalgic tribute to all US Military service men and women and features a number of nice touches, like a pair of embroidered AAF wings, silkscreened US Military insignias and scroll, and even a vintage-style pin-up (signed "To the boys in the cockpit. Keep 'em flying"). The jacket is constructed from soft & supple antique lambskin leather and includes a snap-down collar, two front cargo pockets with side-entry handwarmers, stitched-down epaulets, storm flap over heavy-duty antique brass zipper, two inside pockets, knit cuffs and waistband, and a roomy full-cut fit. The antique lambskin leather will further distress as you wear it to give you that desirable "battle-worn" look. Full cut for a slightly oversize fit.

This is the classic Cockpit® Top Gun G-1, similar to the ones worn by the Navy's best of the best! Like any proper "Top Gun" jacket, this one features a variety of naval patches, including a special 9" x 11.5" pieced leather blood chit on the jacket's back (the red stripes, blue field, and anchor are individual pieces of leather sewn onto the leather chit). This updated G-1 has all the standard G-1 features, but also adds a few not found on US Navy-issued G-1s, like a removeable chocolate brown fur collar, two front cargo pockets with side-entry handwarmers, two interior leather trimmed pockets, satin WWII escape map lining, polyfil insulation for warmth, and a roomy full-cut fit. Also features a pen slot under left pocket flap, inside wind flap, bi-swing back for freedom of movement, knit cuffs and waistband, and antiqued brass zipper. The jacket's shell is made from soft and supple antique lambskin leather, which feels like an old friend from day one. Cockpit® M-43 Field Jacket

This is a faithful reproduction of the classic WWII field jacket, worn by the troops who stormed the beaches at Normandy during the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France! Features include a mil spec olive cotton shell (with the Cockpit's special "4 Year Combat Wash" to give this garment the well-worn look of a combat veteran), four front cargo pockets (all with hidden button closures for a clean look), an under-windflap button-closure front, waist adjustable internal drawstring, button-closure cuffs, neck flap attached to the left collar (which can be buttoned across the neck for added cold or wind protection), bi-swing back for freedom of movement, full body & sleeve lining, and an authentic Army Quartermaster Corps cotton label. Two internal pockets have also been added to store additional necessities.
The design of the M-43 was so successful that all subsequent US Military field jackets, including the current-issue M-65, are still remarkably similar to it. Cockpit® is owned and operated by the former owners of Avirex, but is a separate line that is not associated with the Avirex brand owned by MEE. All Avirex-branded flight jackets have been discontinued, although the same jackets are now available under the Cockpit® brand.
